if i using prime to conditioning my tap water, is it gonna extand the cycle period? i only did one water change during cycle period which is about 15% water but i did top up water that condition with prime everyday, since prime can remover ammonia. my tank is two mths old now.

Prime doesn't actually remove the ammonia. It bonds with it for 24 hours to make it less harmless, then releases it back into the system again so your filters can digest it.

Good to know. I wondered about that. Don't know about the rest of you... A question on that: you said it makes it so the filters can handle the ammonia. Are you talking about the live rock or actual filters, as in hob? And what sort of media absorbs ammonia? Can you elaborate on that statement a little?

Kelly, it is released into the filters to begin the nitrogen cycle that is done by the beneficial bacteria in the biological portion of the filtration. Ammonia is converted to nitrites, nitrites to nitrate and water changes remove the nitrates.

Sooo...If one were to hypothetically be having a slight ammonia problem, would filling the, say, empty HOB this hypothetical person has with sponges be helpful in lowering the ammonia?

Only if this hypothetical person hypothetically had sponges with established beneficial bacteria on it. Like something from an already cycled tank.
