i have a big 6" male and a 2.5" female they spawned like two weeks ago but my pictus catfish eat the eggs . so i moved them to a 20 high till i get my other tanks set up. now i got her ready for round two but i noticed shes acting scared of the male now. when ever he tempts to get her attention she runs and hides in a corner or her caves. i think they spawned the first time by luck since the catfish acted as dithers. and with out them in there she lacks the confidence she once had with the cat fish in there. she was trying the other night but he wouldnt let her lay the eggs he kept charging her while she was trying to lay the eggs on the flat rocks. while she hid he would eat the eggs instead of fertilizing them . she couldnt hold em any more they just started coming out of her and he was behind her eats the eggs as they fell. what should i do to help them out ? i was thinking of adding a dither or two.

they need time to learn practice makes perfect

im sure its not that they need practice they did it just fine with the catfish in the tank . about 95% of the first batch was fertilized. witch is good.

i did a wc . i also left about 5 gallons out so its simulates rain when the filters pour in the tank. then in 2 days ill do another wc and add the 5 gallons back.

im beginning to beleive its the size difference

Not sure what size tank they were in before, but a 6" fish in a 20 tall would be VERY intimidating to a 2.5". If they had more room you'd probably have more luck.

was that the first time they bred? many cichlids need a few attempts, not just the fertilization part.they learn to care for eggs, work together to protect, become parents.size difference could be it,she is very small/young to begin breeding.needs time.feed them well, add some targets is a good idea.giant danios, rainbows another cichlid could work
