Starting a new escondido breeding project

I just go 7 escondidos and I was wounding if one male will mate with more then one female. I have always wanted one but I was able to get a good deal on some so I bought 7 of them. But everything I see on the internet is one male and one female in a tank together I have two males and 5 females

I have seen cichlids switch between females. If that were to happen you might have to consider removing the one that lost out. The aggression was fierce with even the male beating on the female that he did not want to spawn with again. But you do have 2 males so you could very well end up with 2 pairs. Good luck!

Carpintis are generally monogamous, i.e. one male will stick to one female.

But they can switch if they want to.

if you have multiple tanks you can actualy use the males as studs and swith them between tanks. use the window shopper window divider to protect the females when reintroduced into each tank. if you keep them all together you can end up with 2 pairs but you also have some deaths to the none bonded females..

All 7 together should allow a pair bond (maybe 2 pairs)to form naturally.
When it does, the pair will probably take over a certain area of the tank. If the tank is large enough, you could put a divider in allowing the pair to be together, to see the others, but not come into direct contact, this strengths the pair bond.
The male will focus on trying to defend her against the others. Sometimes when keeping a pair alone, aggression has no outlet, and they turn on each other, and you end up with a dead mate.

Depends upon the tank size. If the tank is not large enough as they mature one of the males is going to kill all of the females. These fish are brutal with each other. Even in a 6ft tank I always use a divider to spawn them.

i vote no. id sepperate asap. thats just me. anytime i see a pair have fry they get pulled and placed into a new tank. i know not everyone has multiple tanks but if you do id take advantage of that.
