Best catfish bait

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i wasn't arguing with you at all that livers or hot dogs don't catch fish, this thread just kind of evolved in to being about larger cats lol
The thread wasn't about what is best bait for larger cats, it was about what is good bait for catfish in general. That said, my roommate from Wisconsin would bring me a cooler full of stunted channel catfish from a small lake in Wisconsin, probably about 20 of them in a cooler. They were good to eat through.

Im sure these choices have already been said but the ones I have tried are chicken livers, bubblegum, hot dogs, nightcrawlers, canned corn with molasses and without, and shad. From my experiences, shad is the ultimate but if you dont have access to a boat and a cast net then it doesnt matter. The cheapest would be a can or 2 of sweet corn get the off brand they dont know any difference. I just put chicken livers on the hook and cast so with that said it is a little difficult to cast without throwin them off. If Im on a bank thats sandy Ill roll them in the sand a little to firm them up or let them air out to firm up till you get the hang of it.

I disagree, I see a HUGE number of very nice and VERY big flatheads caught in Cali. Bigger than 40 pounds.
Still, California is giant largemouth bass state. Minnesota isn't known for big catfish anyways even we have huge flatheads here but it is a walleye state.

Minnesota river has some monster flatheads...

You could say LMB is popular in every state though, not just Cali. Its just ones preference in what to fish for.

Still flatheads are not popular sportfish in Minnesota. Also flatheads are limited to very few rivers in Minnesota and the flatheads are not excatly common fish. If they are so popular, every lakes would be stocked with flatheads or even move them up north in central Minnesota. As I said before, not all states that is popular with catfishing and Minnesota is a walleye state.
