Hi guys,

Which substrate will bring out the best in the birchir colors?

I know people use red sand but what exactly is the name of the red sand?

Thank you.

Cheers,

River rocks worked for me. Always wanted to do sand but never got the chance to.... it was always bare bottom or river rocks..

black sand should show those colors or maybe even pure white sand but good luck with the keep up

I think the red sand is usually called garnet sand, but I'd recommend the red or black sand (I prefer a mix), with larger rocks to decorate the tank

I use th Japanese "standard", 90% pure crushed garnet stone ( like sand, but Munich heavier) with 10% Tahitian moon sand (black).

The read brings out the contrast (patterns) and the black makes the colors pop (greens mainly).

I find all black sand makes the goldens such as Endli lose their contrast.
