What is this Bichir?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got it from a friendship trade, so im not really sure how much is this. by saying +1, are you in concurrence of leucistic+xanthic?

i see. so is pure leucistic or pure xanthic or leucistic/xanthic a rarer morph? any other fishes display this "dual-morph"?

I would think it is more of a lower grade plat. endli. That explains the yellow tone. This is my 2 cents worth.

Though I am also unsure of what this is, I am more inclined on it being Xanthic because of the following factors:

1. Search definition of xanthic, and since xanthic means yellow coloration, I would suppose this has xanthic genes.
2. Based on close visual inspection, the perimeter/edges of the scales do really look very yellow as compared from viewing the fish as a whole, from a distance. (as in pict 3)
3. Based on pict 4, there is obvious patterns on the cheek, something which i dont really observe in Leucistic bichirs.
4. Have done a search on xanthic animals and there are some species that is xanthic, but only display lighter yellow coloration, and since i could not find any pictures of any endi which is even part-xanthic, I dont have any basis for reference, and that a xanthic endi might just look like this one.

what do the others think?

Here is 2 Leucisitc Endli with bit of yellow tone in Japan. Most have the yellow in the finnage, and partially the body, usually the head is white tho.

It's just a leusistic endli. Similar to albino senegal that some are yellowish white while some are pinkish white. In endlis those that have the creamy white tone are considered low grade platinum endli or chalk base. The pure white is the high grade.

oh I see, the endi on my side looks like the second picture you just posted. So your take is that this is "Leucistic with xanthic tone"?

I just hope this one grows big!

Yeah or what King-eL said, a lower grade leucistic.

Hi.
Nice fish, it's Plat Endli.
What we in Japan would call "grade B". (A being snow white)

Not an Xantic IMO.

Nice find, hope thats not it's home though!

Alright! Thank you all for your ID! Now I know what it is. Strangely, it's full white in the tank now, will stress level affect its color temporarily?
