Hi my lfs is having a sale on Rena canister filters tomorrow for 33% off and you get a master water test kit with your purchase. I want a good filter and was wondering if Rena canisters are good. Thanks

I have 5 and had no problems with them, the xp3 and xp4 are great with plenty of compartments for different media

In my experience better than a Fluval in most ways with the exception of the initial priming which can be a little bit of a pain. Other than that a good filter in my opinion, though my first choice for cheap filters are Cascade canisters.

I just got one not too long ago with no instructions, how do you hook up all the tubes? and what media in all four trays and in what order?...Thanks

Hooking up the hoses should be pretty self explanatory, if your looking at it the intake should be on right and the out on the left. Media place it in like any other with pads in the bottom and top compartments and biological material in the middle. If it actually came with media the black filter pads should be on the bottom. Also you can reference online manuals for such things here's a video I found right away http://www.rena.net/videos/filstar-xp.html and the site it was on also has a PDF http://www.rena.net/Products/Product.aspx?ProductID=349

Thanks Koltsix I couldn't figure out what black tube connected to other black tubes.Very informative video.I think mine is missing a blue tube. All the blue connected doesn't even go anywhere near the middle of the tank it's pretty short and the hose as well.

No problem bro, glad I could help. As for the hoses you can always hit up homedepot for them, this way you can choose what kind of hose you want to use as well as pick up some clamps to make sure those hoses stay on. I personally prefer black hoses as the clear ones get gross looking pretty fast, then again it does help you see just how dirty they are getting.
