How many here have eaten their red tailcat or another fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
rtcs are so cute when cooked lets see a pic of how you cooked it?

i think not. it would offend to,many, poeple. i'm really shoked about how many people have an issue with eating a fish.that's been raised. tell you way tho. i bet they arnt asian!

i wounder how many people are hypocrites and still eat fish? just cause they don't know how its been raised. kinda intersting me being called a farmer and not a hobbiest. guess people don't know what a hobby is. if youve ever grown a tomato plant your a farmer then?

and being called a serial killer? that's just insane. that guy who left that better not east ANY meat. and should live in fear cause of how many, people kill animals so he can stuff his face with a burger weekly.,

the world would be a,better place if hobbiests would be the only people raseing animals for food.

me personally. i love having fish. i don't LOVE eating fish but I'll try everything. BESIDES pinchy would want it this way

No matter what type of meat you eat someone, somewhere, had to kill it and butcher it. Unless it was caught or hunted someone raised the animals. You can disconnect yourself from that but your bacon was raised and cared for by someone for a long period of time. Remember that before condemning the op

but that's the OPs point - my bacon was not cared for by anyone, it was raised in a mile long pig pen by industrial 'farmers' treating the animals like crap for only a short time while injecting them with growth hormones... I don't condemn the op even though I wouldn't do it myself. If hand raised beef from a local farmer were easier to get I would do that - but you generally have to buy like half a cow and I don't know enough people to split that up with.

and im not raising the catfish just to eat it. i love fish keeping. And really if eating him wasnt an option i wouldnt keep him cause idc if your tank is 600gal. that's to small. i think i found a Humain way to keep a rtc.

I don't see anything wrong with it. From a moral point of view it's much more responsible to provide a healthy and caring living enviorment for ur food then buy it at the local store and support industrial slaughter houses where they are raised in horrible conditions. Have you ever seen pangasius farms? Thousands of fish cramed in a pond living in their feces. By condeming the OP ur saying -I'd rather have someone else torture and kill the animal I eat then me providing it with good life and eat it.-
My mother is from a european country and my relatives there raise sheep, cows, pigs, chickens, ducks etc. They raise them and feed them every day, and treat them if they get sick and eat them when it's time to eat. I can tell you one thing no meat or poultry I bought from a store did EVER come even close to tasting as good as properly treated and raised food I ate there. EVER!!
The only question is what did you buy the fish for? If u bought it with an intention of eating it, then it's ok, but if you bought it to keep it for a lifetime and enjoy it's company then it'll be hard for you to visualize eating it.

BTW I never did eat any of my fish, but I never kept a fish bigger then 8".

Tojo I hope that when your dad gave you all his fish, you told him you might kill them to eat, that's all.
You started the thread by saying rtc's grow too large to be kept humanely. The oscar is nowhere near that problem.
Your dad might not care if you eat it. otherwise, that would just be a low down thing to do.
Honestly you seemed to be changing the conversation, from a practical standpoint over to the shock value.
I 'get' the humor that's going on here too. ha ha, and all that.

but even in asia, it's inconsiderate to act like you're offering someone's pet a home when you only intend to eat their dog. That happened to some friends of mine.

thanks, that's very well put. i have many fish i could never dream of eating! the catfish, i know it will have to go at some point. i wish i could keep forever.

I have killed plenty of chickens in my life by snapping their neck so no big issue killing. Working on a farm they aren't your pets even the dog that works the cattle. I have even shot wild dogs while hunting on someone's property because of them running the deer and killing livestock. If this RTC was in a pond raised then you caught it and ate it no big deal. But in an aquarium hand feeding it come on you have no conscious. Most serial killers start by killing animals that they build trust in them.
