Most cichlids are all bred in your local water and arnt used to high ph anyways.... Unless they are WC then I wouldnt worry about it. Toss the drift wood in, if your worried throw a few rocks in to harden the water or do more water changes.
The amount of african cichlid tanks with driftwood is incredibly high
while I've never kept africans, I can't imagine the inclusion of driftwood to be detrimental
maybe use a nice african wood though, just to say its african wood
