Im debating going with a 90 gallon Discus tank vs pairing up some RD and Kamfa flowerhorns. With that being said how hard is it to maintain a Discus tank? Obviously I know you have to keep temp higher but Ive heard they are much more delicate fish and take as much care as a salt tank. I was thinking that if I go with Discus in my 90 maybe 3 checkerboard pigeon, 3 blue sapphire, and 3 of a darker color... Any thoughts or suggestion?

discus all day

wanna care for them properly? clean water is all you need

I'm a hardcore cichlid head, but we recently got into discus and dwarf cichlids. I recommend finding a reliable local breeder if you can. We bought 3 discus from a friend and they didn't take well to being moved. We than hooke up w/ a local breeder thru our local club and bought 4 new discus, that was 4 months ago and they are thriving. Everybody has their own opinions, but you can always get info on Simply Discus. If you like I can ask him if he ships.

I'm also very much into new worlds but (as my screen name suggests), I'm fond of flowerhorns as well so I'll try to be impartial.
While both fhs and discus are strikingly beautiful they are too dissimilar to compare. On one hand you have the boisterous, interactive behavior of the fh and on the other, the graceful demeanor of discus: dogs and cats.
Which suits your personality?

I'm a festae/cichla guy, but I got into the discus and dwarves because of my girlfriend. We have 20 tanks, mostly my big monster stuff, but she has 6 w/ dwarfs and the discus tank we kind of share. Our discus are pretty interactive though, way more than I thought they would be.

When you have a chance see if you can observe an established discus tank. They are cichlids in the end and can be very aggressive in defending territory or establishing heirarchy. They are much more active and boisterous than most people think they are :)

Never said they were lacking in attitude. I was just trying to point out how vastly different the two types of fish are.
