Sand. It's FAR easier to keep clean... at least as far as I'm concerned.

Gravel for me all the way. I hate sand and bare bottom looks so artificial to me. I change the color of the gravel every now and then, sand ruined one of my aqua clear 110's/ as for bare bottom --not for me but to each his own. I enjow watching fish move gravel around.
