If you knew you would be stung...

i kept rays and a folder next to the tank with information for the hospital incase i got stung. so i guess that is case and point.

i did get stung and i now i have more rays , however i must say it was my own fault for trying to help a juvenile ray that was dying. should have been more carefll but i never expected a dying rays tail to move so quickly. tbh wouldnt have expected a live rays tail to move so quickly... but it did, and it hurts. i treated it with hot water as strong as i could stand and im still alive :)

still put my hands in the tanks to clean the glass and remove odd bits of debri with no reluctance but i still think they are amongst the best animals i have ever kept.

Probablly.. because like said.. its not a question of If, but when... no matter how careful you are accidents happen. you try and minimize the potential but its there as long as the animal is. that being said... i'm not sadistic enough to enjoy it, but if tahst what it took. yes I'de do it. other then my gar and spiney eels, my rays are my babies.

That's not true it's.not a case of when I have been keeping rays for over 20 years and never been stung

People keep dogs and never get bit

If you are careful and respect your rays then you won't get stung

It's only when you start doing silly things like hand feeding your chances of getting stung go up

If your rays are in a tank that's to small you also have a higher chance of getting stung

I had someone get in my tanka week or so back and the rays stayed at the opposite end it used to be the same when I done water changes I cleaned at one end and the days moved to the other end

I never buy any animal thinking I will get bit or stung

If you did think you were going to get stung you would need to be a rubbish keeper if you let it happen once per week as once should be enough to make you take more care

Rays are absolutly awesome creatures, after I get a few more years under my belt I may look into them. But for now its all about learning and growing!

I'm also lucky enough to be able to get in my tank with my rays for either retrieving newborn pups or maintenance. I have not been stung yet and don't plan on it happening. There has been two close calls once when my 32" castexi wasn't finished giving birth and I climbed in the tank thinking she was done to get the pups and round 2 of birth started so fish and rays where flying all around kinda in a panic and the last time I was in the tank for some maintenance I was in there for about 3 hours so the rays where getting very comfortable with me in there and when I needed to have a ray move it didn't want to so I got more persistant and went to move it with my hand and it struck out but missed, this was me just being stupid but gave me a wake up call that they will as every other time I go into the tank and including the last time I'm allways petting the rays as alot of them like this.

That's awesome sky. If you'd asked me before I got a ray, or even the first months, I would have said no, but now, even if I absolutely knew I would be stung one day, haha, I'm in! Wait...what if was that you get stung just before the ray sheds its second stinger, so you get hit with two stingers!??
