Okay, I have just recorded this and uploaded it only to realise it was never in focus :irked:. However, you get the idea of how my tank is coming along.

Sadly the 4 new stalsbergi made short work of 3 of my tetras :irked:, Never mind, I knew it was coming. My lfs got some BHT's so they should fair better :)

Andy, the brute is an almost confirmed male (I vented to be sure), i'm 99% sure - I've never vented before but from what I read o-o makes male o-0 makes female? anyone care to confirm.

Two, possible three of the smaller five have dropped ovipositors so i'm certain there are females. There has also been a mixture of smaller ones flaring and showing at Andy - Ifigured were they male Andy wouldn't allow this, so who knows. There is also one of the suspected females protecting a rock in the far left, cleaning it also. So I think another inch we may have breeding :).

The small ones measure at 2.25" to 2.75" TL, Andy is 3.5" TL - but much bulkier. I think the larger confirmed male works well with the smaller 5, Instead of 6 of the same sized ones. Makes judging behaviour easier.

Anyway - sorry for the poor quality video, If it isn't embedded correctly some please do so. First ever video... Let me know what you think :D

so you followed through with the idea for the biotope? thats amazing you did a great job!

Looking good Grant. It's good to see others try and recreate as natural of an environment as possible; as I'm a big fan of biotope style aquariums myself. I really dig the green algae growth on your driftwood as well. My BN Pleco does to good of a job and eats all of mine!

Amazing, I'm glad you found a nice new batch! Looking forward to see how the BHTs will be welcomed, hahaha.

Sweet video man; very nice aquascaping with the fish looking cute and harmless ;)

Thanks! I'm really glad I did it too! It is my favourite setup that I've had so far!

Very nice where did you get your new stalsbergi's? The tank looks much better!

I said, I have contacts ;), they were ultimately from Jeff Rapps again, I found a supplier who had them for a while and I just scooped up the last.

Thankyou for the compliments. How are yours coming along?

Well I'm glad it looks natural :) I think the algae on the wood looks real nice too, once upon a time it was inches long! It has since been trimmed down by the SDs. They occasionally use it as a food source, along with my plants. Thankyou for the kind words, it's always nice to know someone appreciates a good tank when they see it ;)

Thanks, I'm real glad too. Because i'm around 95% sure there will be at least one pair. As I said, some have already dropped ovipositors and are clearing spawning sites! However, at a little over 2.5" TL I think they're a little small. Either way, having 5 smaller ones has reduced aggression massively :D

Well I have asked my lfs to grow the BHTs out a little, which he said he can do. Because they are tiny! He said the price will go up, but I think its worth it if there is less casualties.

The fish do look harmless and the SDs look awkward. You know how you said yours spook and swim into things, well mine have begun to swim into eachother and the GTs. They will just swim around bashing of everyone! Which Andy does NOT like :D

Thankyou for the compliments - now it's your turn to post a video :D

Mine are coming around. They will now swarm the front of the tank to grab food and then retreat again. One has developed the light vertical bars and they are all coloring up nicely. They grown noticeably already so they do grow fast. And best of all I still have zero aggression between them! In fact so far they are the most placid cichlids I have kept to date but i doubt that lasts all that much longer.

I think having more than two reduces aggro, and having six makes for a peaceful tank! You lucked out if there is still no aggro! My first four varied in size so greatly I think that was the cause of the problem. Are yours all of similar size? Whens your video getting uploaded?

Mine are a lot more sociable and do not hide as much, I think the SDs help a little acting as dithers. Do you have any other fish in woth yours? Andy stays the same colours all the time, whereas the five smaller ones change colour so much and so fast!

Nice set up!!! I used to have some stalsbergi, they were really nice. Much more aggresive that the saums. Very cool:)
