Can a Angel and severum cross breed?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
culling of fry that could prove without a doubt that that particular hybridization could happen would be more of a detriment to the hobby that logging a journal or proving once and for all that it is likely, in addition it would most likely have a write up in some aquarium magazine, just because it has never been properly documented by a responsible hobbyist , that can verify facts.. and proof. aside from a maybe photoshopped pic

I refuse to allow two of my favorite fish types breed and make a hybrid that might look like a angel or sev and be sold as pure eventually so yeah they do get auto death. If you have ever seen either of the two as adults you would know that body shape would really affect the organs of the fry.Why are you gonna get on my thread...too cause problems?I did not ask if that was okay so i do not care if you think it is.

I call BS on the severum X convict hybrid until I see documented proof of the pair spawning and the fry being reared. I have spawned a ton of mis-barred severums that have odd markings.

Didn't want to cause problems. I understand that everyone has their own thoughts, and morals. I just found it weird that the hybrids would be killed when you put the parents together. I respect your opinion just wanted clarification. That's the point of forums.

I thought this thread would have sparked more interest/discussion on the evolution and diversification of CA/SA species. No interest?

weather or not you read the whole paper I thought the subject itself would be interesting to most. I get tried of the same old " s a 55 gal tank ok for" and then a list of ten twelve fish and that gets 87 replys. This is a very cool topic and all I hear are crickets.....lol. I just thought the evolution of cichlids would be interesting to more people. Guess not. I love that stuff.

Of course not, Tom - only conjecture, opinion and ignorance.... Sadly.

Matt

Unfortunatly you're right. I find the subject of the evolution of new world cichlids an interesting topic and always speculated about the relationship and evolutionary path of Angelfish, Severum, Festavum and others. There is not too much on the subject that I've seen.
