Well it has been 3 1/2 days. And the eggs haven't hatched yet. They still look good though. Most other cichlids I've spawned, the eggs are useually hatched by now. Are these guys known to take a bit longer? I am still very excited, but now curious as to the gestation period of lyonsi. If anyone has spawned these and feels like chimming in, please do. Thanks.

Well just got home from church and a large majority of the eggs are fuzzy. It dosent look like any fungus I have delt with. Some of the eggs still look good. Anyone know what's up? Here is a pic. Thanks.

I just counted, and it looks like their is still about 100 eggs that are healthy. And lots of them have fry in it. I can see the little black "tadpole" inside.

how long have you had them before they spawned for you i have some from gage now and have had them for like 2 months

I have had them for like 6 months ish???? They were never able to spawn because the tank was overstocked. The tankmates were pretty aggresive. 3 micropthalmus 1m/2f, and a pair of pretty aggresive pair of old meeki that claimed like 1/3 of the tank. So they couldent establish a territory. But when I pulled the micros and meeki, they spawned in a few days.

Awesome guys, but I wish you couldve put some of that blue solution called Met.....whatever, lol. Anyways it helps in fungus prevention.

Just got from dinner at grandmas.. the "fuzzy" I was seeing on 3/4 of the eggs was shell casings.. I'm a little tarded... I have no clue why I dident recognize it as such. The remainder of the eggs hatched and I probably have 300ish (I'm terrible at guessing) wrigglers. WOOT WOOT!! Happy fathers day to the newest father in my house.

Congrats on the spawn. Lyonsii are endangered in the wild. It is important to have keepers like you spawning this fish and keeping it in circulation to prevent extinction.
