Cichla with Hoplias Aimara?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would say hell no. I had a hoplias curipira?sp with my bass in 600 gallons and it starved bc the bass ate too fast. Ocassional fin nip, translation bass fin was shredded. Had an aimara and it shredded all fish save a parrot cichlid that just wouldn't die. Aimara, angry.

I can drop enough food in to get it fed i think - it is difficult with cichla because theyre greedy at the surface but its the aggression i'm worried about.

I've thought about mixing these together before, but with a erythrinus erythrinus (red high fin, or rainbow wolffish) since they don't get as large as their cousins the Hoplias Aimara. My fear if getting one would also be the aggression.

Like you said, cichla are greedy and if the aimara is big enough it won't go hungry for too long before doing something about it.

Actually, your old big guy co-exist very well with my fish, such as arowana, datnoid, bichir, and feifeng...

I keep my Aimara in the same tank as my large bass, armatus and various other fish .
I think it is down to each individual fish. it would help if the Aimara was smaller than the bass and the aimara was introduced to an already established tank of bass.
I saw 7 Aimara in two days earlier this week From 9" to 16". 4 of them were totally nuts the other 3 were calm.
They are only 4 in the u.k i believe. I imported one last year for a guy in Scotland
Are you wanting one?

I have a curupira in with my bass and he eats just fine, he doesn't mess with the bass and they don't mess with him. When I come by the tank he hovers in the middle waiting on food. He hangs out with my bichirs a lot and hates my vulture cat with a passion.
