wc giant senegals from lake Turkana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the import says turkana but i don't care where they come from. Im just glad they are wc because as you said cb senegals are genetic trash in most cases. what amazes me most are those two white markings over the females eyes. also their head shape is way different then the normal senegal i know. Their eyes look bigger for example.

i think the problem with cb senegals is the genetic bottleneck. Some come out amazing but i would say 99% look very bad. I also think they have weaker health. I know friends who had senegals who did not grow, were very bad eaters had internal problems. That 50 cm senegalus looks great. What bothers me is that he looks exactly like my female. same headshape and bodyform just not those white markings over the eyes. My male has a much more pointed head. i would say, that im super happy wih my two senegals right now. As i first saw them i was like...blehh...senegals ... but then gave them a try and ordered them. I don't regret it.

As far as I know, most WC sene are caught from Congo and Nigeria. However Nigerian sene usually stay smaller compare to Congo sene. If they are WC I'm guessing they are Congo sene. Yes WC sene do have different headshape almost palmas like. We had a shipment of WC Nigerian sene before and they stayed at 10-11" max. While the congo sene we had grew to 12-13". However I cannot say they are from Congo or Nigerian, just guessing. However I have to aggree with TGM that they are not Turkana Sene unless the importer got guys catching them in the area and risking their own lives.

I didnt know their were any WC Sengals in the hobby. They are so commonly bread, i figured no one bothered to collect wild peices.

Yeah, they are out there. My buddy just bought an 8" & 10" WC sens over the week-end locally. Their head shapes are definitely different than cb. I have to disagree that cb sens are trash. CB sens are nice & are beautiful additions to any bichir tank.

I did not mean it that way. Calling cb senegals trash was too harsh, sorry for that. What i was trying to say is, that many of them has issues that should not be. What is the reason for that? Is it the genetic bottleneck caused from inbreding? Is it possible hormons used for breeding cause that?
