I've been trying to get my pair of jacks to spawn. I have been feeding them live black worms, frozen bloodworms, raw shrimp, and high quality pellets. I've also been changing their water every other day with slightly cooler water. However, they've shown no interest in spawning at all. Is there anything that might help entice them into doing the deed? Would changing the water everyday as opposed to every other day help?

You can try to increase the temperature to about 82 degree F. Also adding another small cichlid in the tank to generate competition may work. Your tank have to be big enough to let the new guy run and hide. Keep in mind the newer fish may get beat up in the process. Or you can have the other fish in another tank next to the pair. Good Luck.

I got a big mirror and just placed it next to the tank. The male has parked himself infront of it and just stares at his reflection. He doesn't really show any aggression until the female swims over to investigate. Then he gets all angry and attacks her. After that, he just goes back to staring again. He's not really hurting her, but she swims away and I don't know if it's helping. I would put another fish to dither but I have no spare fish at the moment that I wouldn't mind dying...

You positive your female is a female?
I bought her as a female so I would hope that she is xD. I don't see how she isn't female, She's got the blue beard and few if any spangling on her body. She's also been with my male for a long time now and unless males pair off with other males... She's in my display picture, the one on the right.

yes thats a female and i just got my big guy a female and nothing so far but there not in a tank by them self so i really don't want eggs

They've been together since January and they're in their own tank(55). It's not that I'm in a particular rush but I'm starting to worry that it's because I'm not providing them the right conditions.
