You never know, I ended up keeping a feeder comet for quite some time (6 months or so) with 2 adult Oscars and an Arow that went from 7 to 17-18 inches or so in that time.

The comet now has him own home in my buddies tank and is about 7-7.5" long, tail included.

I guess alot would depend on your fish keeping skills.

Well the comet is still going strong. One of the rd's isn't too happy with it but no matter how much it chases it, it can't catch it. If the comet makes it through the summer I will give it a tank all to its self in my sons room.

No telling to be honest I had a baby 1.5" comet that I got as a feeder for my convict. The con never ate it and let it live to about 8". This was 4 years ago and the con and comet are still living together.

Funny story guy here in Manitoba got feeder goldfish for his Payara when he first got it. 1 was allowed to live. Goldfish grew large and one night bashed the Payara against the glass till it killed it. Prey became predator with one stupid and angry feeling owner. Never under estimate the lowly goldfish lol and yes it is a true story

How big is this tank? If it's large enough to hold all those cichlids when they're grown, I'd wager the goldfish can make it a while before it's seen as too great a threat to food/breeding/territory/nerves. If not (and this is some 55 or something else way too small), I'd say his days are numbered inside a month.
