Pacu might become illegal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank is 15' x 4' x 4' will be using a 405 gallon sump

Wow awesome footprint! Those pacu a really lucky to have such a great owner. The new tank looks great, definatly gonna be worth the wait. It would be nice if all LFS were responsible. The LFS down the road from me has ID sharks listed as growing to 8" just a little off. Ive told them about it several times they dont care.

We're making very slow progress--it is now two years and ten months since I ordered the tank.

Are you adding other fish to that new tank ?

I can't rescue all the pacu in the world. My commitment extends to my pacu only. I can't help that some idiot in town is selling pacus to unwitting people just to make a buck. I tried to enlighten him, but he didn't give a rip. No way would I consider in six months taking in any of the pacu he is selling right now just because they have outgrown the 29 gallon tank he sold to their owners. My sole responsibility is to provide adequate housing for the fish I have.

No one would ever tell a person, "You have a huge back yard. You should adopt ten dogs from the animal shelter." or "Your house is really big. Why don't you adopt five children from the orphanage? You have the room."

So in answer to your question, nope, I have no plans to add more fish. Two pacu are more than enough fish for me.

That is irresponsible IMO. As a store owner, you know a lot of these people would not have done their research in the first place on buying the fish. If you aren't going to be taking them on when they get big, don't sell them when they are small.

Thats what I like about my LFS. If it's something they sold and it gets too big, doesnt work out in your tank, or your situation changed and you need to downsize, they welcome that fish back.

my local LFS would only order one but don't carry them I think this is the best way order but not stock them so people at least should know more about them if they order one not see them super small and say o I want one mom!

I don't think its in responsible though from the stores I don't blame them... As a store you can't just take in 10++ huge fish all the time because the chances of them being sold is slim and not to mention most lfs don't even have proper tank space for larger fish only baby ones.

not mentioned that they would have hard time to sell an adult pacu even if its 5 bucks or free. I know a lfs that has a pond of pacus for sale....they hasnt sold one for 3 years so they decided to destory all pacus they have.
