Can vary from state to state. Only silvers are legal in Florida. Arowana are listed as a restricted species in either Mississippi or Tennesse have to look up to be sure on which it was.

Conditional Nonnative Wildlife
Conditional nonnative species (formerly referred to as restricted species) are considered to be dangerous to the ecology and/or the health and welfare of the people of Florida. These species are not allowed to be personally possessed, although exceptions are made by permit from the Executive Director for research, commercial use (with security measures to prevent escape or release) or public exhibition purposes.

Arowanas (except silver arowana, Osteoglossum bicirrhosum)
Osteoglossum ferreirai (Black arawana)
Scleropages aureus
Scleropages formosus (Asian bonytongue)
Scleropages jardinii (Australian bonytongue)

Scleropages leichardti (Spotted bonytongue)
Scleropages macrocephalus
