I'm in the market for a new Magnetic Glass Cleaner. But the catch is I need one with a magnet powerful enough to work through 1 inch acrylic. I know they're pricey, but is there a really good brand I should look into and wheres a good place to start? Also I was also thinking if I would be able to make a DIY one? So I don't spend to much $$$

Thank you all,

Lambrakopoulos:)

ebay "super magnets" if you want to DIY one. They're crazy strong. A couple pieces of acrylic, acrylic glue, acrylic cleaning pads, and magnets, and I'm sure you could DIY something pretty nice.

Or magfloat seems to make some pretty nice ones. They make one big enough for 2" thick acrylic.

I've had bad experiences with ebay so I tend to stay away from that option, but Magfloats seems to be promising.

thanks seedubs

Magfloats are good. My Jaguar/dovii mix likes to play with mine! After feeding him, he stays beside the magnet and waits for me to start moving it. I'm glad that's not my hand he's hitting. He smacks the magnet pretty hard sometimes. Has to be the safest way to play with a 14 inch fish and not get bit. Try Dr Foster and Smith, they might have a big enough one that is a little cheaper than the LFS.

Wow Dr. Foster and Smith had the best prices all along... you the man jag14.
And yeah I know how that can be, i've had to deal with some of my jags in the past that had attitude problems so I would drop a few ping pong balls in their tank and they would go crazy! By the end of the day they wouldn't have the energy to bother me when I would do water changes haha

I also have fishing floats attached to weights to amuse the jag with. His mouth is too big for ping pong balls. Floats are cheaps and easy to rig. He moves them all over the tank, I find them in his cave, or half buried in gravel. I move them around just to tick him off. Cautiously, I don't stick my hand in there very often. He bites hard enough to draw blood sometimes.

I am selling a Magnavore M-8 Cleaner for Glass / Acrylic. My tank is 1" and it works well and the magnet is almost new. I'm selling for $160 but purchased on Marine Depot for $250. The only downside to this magnet is the inner magnet doesn't float, and since my tank is tall with a tall canopy I purchased a Mighty Magnet (over $350, but works really well). Let me know if your interested.
