I enjoyed my aquatop canister filter... until it broke.

For kicks, I gave those aquatop canister filters with the built in UV a try. I bought them less than a year ago (like 7 or 8 months). The filters did a great job at filtering.

But, within the first couple months, the feet on the bottom started to crack and I couldn't get the rubber feet to stay in. No big deal, I jsut set them on towels. But now, I'm having another issue. On one of the filters, two of the "handles" you use to open and close the filter have broken. meaning, I can no longer open up my canister filter to clean it. I'm assuming you can't get replacement parts for this, as it's part of the lid assembly that has all the electronics.

Anyone else have issues with these filters? I admit, I was very happy with them at first, but now i'm starting to regret not spending more and buying something of higher quality.
 
And I was once criticized in saying that they use cheap plastic, then i was told its all the same, well its not, my fx5 lid has dropped 4' no probs. Doesn't it have a warranty?

Lol why has your fx5 been dropped 4ft?
I have an Aquatop and a Fluval FX5. FX5 is a higher quality there is no doubt but the aquatop seems to be doing just fine. I am careful with the handles but aside from that its great. The plastic the Aquatop is made of is a harder plastic than the Fluval so realistically it probably wouldn't survive a 4ft drop but I don't really need it to.
Doh!! Nevermind F1 Vet, just saw that you had said lid. Better design definitely goes to Fluval. :-)

I always clean my filters in my bathtub (gf loves that lol) and I popped lid off and dropped it, I understand for the money aquatops are good value but their no fx5 or even xp4!

I try to be extra careful with the locking handles. They do sell replacement handles. No complaints with mine. Only in use for 8 months.
