heating advice for a 600g acrylic tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The double safety of the jagers with the controller its a piece of mind! Thanks aldiaz33
Also if one heater dies its cheaper to replace a 30$ heater than a 1000watt !!!
(Need to start my own thread of my build instead of asking around and hijacking otherones threads)

I'm thinking of following your advice using the controller with 3 heaters in the sump, but have a couple of questions:

How long is the temp probe good for?
Where do you place the temp probe, in the sump or in an overflow?

What's the coldest that the air temperature in the room will get? If it won't get much below 70F, then I think you should be fine with anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 watts.

I would go with a Ranco Controller with a 1,000W titanium rod and a 500W rod.

Check out Jehmco.com.

Temperature controller: Model# ETCI-1R
Titanium Heater: Model # TSH-1000
Titanium Heater: Model #TSH-500

Edit: Chaidan beat me to it.

You should start a build thread. I love seeing people's progress on setting up their tanks...to me it's the most exciting part. Post lots of pix please! :headbang2

I have heard of the temp probes going bad, but I'm not sure how long they typically last.

I have the probe in my sump. If you put the probe in your overflow and your pump fails for whatever reason, you might have problems. Since the water in your overflow will likely cool down, the controller will have the heaters running, superheating the water in your sump = cooked bio.

Ok, that makes sense. Thank you for the info.
