Hey all,
Yesterday I found some beech wood branches that I decided to take home and debark, sand smooth, and boil, as I heard beech is aquarium-safe. I need a way to keep it from rotting in the tank though, so is there any clear coat or something I can apply to it to make it water proof?

No need, just put it in your tank. It will last for many years as-is. Any clear-coat will prevent it from waterlogging (sinking) and will probably just flake off eventually anyhow.

Nearly all hardwoods are aquarium safe

Water + air = wood rot. If the wood is fully submerged in water it shouldn't rot.

There is some company in Canada that is pulling 100+ year old logs that sunk in rivers and streams out and cutting them up and selling them as lumber. My point being, wood under water will last a very long time.
