Background: 4 weeks ago i set up a 60gal with a new canister that i had let run on my 29gal for 2 months before i set up the 60gal. I only used pads in the canister while i seaded the canister. About two weeks ago i added two full trays of ceramic rings to the canister.
Saturday i tested my water and the amonnia and nitrites were out of control. Amonnia 2.5, No2 5, No3 80. Fish all looked and acted fine. I did a water change saturday and monday. Tested the water yesterday and amonnia was 0, No3 40, No2 STILL 5.
I dont know if its related but my tank temp has climbed to 83.7 and stayed their for almost 3 days. Heater is unplugged.
Someone told me i had a bacteria bloom. That i added too many cramic rings to quick.
Woke up this morning and my Hijuita Gar was laying on the bottem. So sad now. It was a good size. 7 1/2 in.
I have another gar, a 5" ornate, and a 4" pleco that i would love to keep. I really dont want to lose the rest.
Any ideas on what to do? Should i just wait untill the tank cycles? Can i speed up the process?
