I'm going out of town soon for one week.. what should i do about my tank? i have no one to watch it. this is the first time ill be leaving for a extended period of time sense i got my tank setup.. what do you do when going out of town?

Do a 50% wc and vac substrate the night before departure, that will keep ur water params good for a week. If ur overstocked with lots of fish then feed the morning u leave, if u have a low stock then same method. When I leave I do the same but use my auto feeder and I dial it back to minimal food once a day, any uneaten food left for a week could foul the water. Gl

If you do get a automatic feeder don't set it to feed every day set it for every other day just to be safe

I always find someone willing to throw food in the tank. I put a set amount into a dixy cup for each day and they just have to dump it in. If frozen food I put it into separate daily Ziploc bags. Easy as that.

Unless you need to control aggression through feeding, you can just not feed for a week. The fish will be okay.

ya they won't all eat pellets yet.. so idk how to use an auto feeder.. and they will not start getting aggressive towards each other.. i don't think. my tank is not heavily stocked either
So just feed them prior to your vacation, change water before you leave. Your fish will be fine

And who knows, when you come back, the fish that dont take pellets might take pellets lol. Thats how it worked for me.

Hello; I have left fish without food or water changes for a week many times over the years. On a few occasions for more than a week. healthy well fed adult fish can last this long without problems. I have my lights on a timer all the time anyway so thios is not an issue with the planted tanks.
My worst problems have been when some one has fed the fish for me with very bad results. I would avoid getting some one to do this.
I have used automatic feeders with good results on occasion. I would suggest setting them up a week or two ahead of time so the kinks can be worked out. For only a week this should not be needed. Good luck.
