i just caught a nice 7 inch yellow perch and brought it home in my 75 gallon tank with my 5 inch bichirs. Will they fight??? Are perches considered aggresive fish that can maul and harass tankmates?? Anybody keep them with tank mates? Do they attack slow fish like my bichir??

thanks

perch are the least aggressive fish I have in my native setup, and mine don't bother my senegal I have in the tank with them

awwwwww geez! If you guys only answered quicker....I let the perch go. I kept a baby bass that I netted. Got to catch another perch now!

how bigs the setup and the perch and sen?

Shouldn't be a problem, but if the perch grows fast it may start to see the Bichir as food. I have had perch and Bichir together for over a year now with out any problems. The perch don't really cause any problems with other tank mates as well. My bigger perch will occasionally chase the smaller 2 perch around but never any of the tank mates.

The one thing you need to be careful about is Bichir tend to be slower feeders while the perch are quick, so you have to make sure the Bichir will still get food.

were the perch and bichir simalar size?

When they started the Bichir was about 4 inches or so and the perch were about 5-6 inches.

Negative I had 5 perch and they were my favorite fish to keep. I feed them feeders left over shiners and flatheads from fishing and they'd love them. Their tank mates were a channel catfish and common carp and I never had any issues. It's nice to get 3-4 perch since they are a schooling fish. Good luck
