Hey guys, I just got back from my local fishing trip with:

an 8 inch yellow perch

a 1.5 inch largemouth bass

a 7 inch sunfish of some sort.

I was wondering if they can life with my three 5 inch bichirs and two mature angelfish peacefully in my 75 gallon tank. Of course the LMB can't live there for life but can the perch and sunfish?? I have a few questions:

1. The temperature is set to 27 degrees but right now, i turned my heater off since it's a hot summer. Can the "coldwater" fish survive?? i've seen LMBs with arowanas in some huge tanks. What's a safe temp for the native fish AND the bichirs??

2. Will the native fish harass my bichirs??

3. What do they eat??

4. Has one of you guys kept these fish with tropical fish specificly with bichirs?

5. Are they huge pooping machines.

6. Any health or disease hazards? (from hotter water at high 70s etc)

7. Are they hard to keep alive??

8. can all of them (except the bass) live in the 75 gal for life?

If these fish are too hard to handle, I'll just release them where I got them them. They are swimming fine right now.

I'm not sure where i heard this, but I thought it was ilegal to keep natives in tanks in canada?
Also it depends on the temprement of the fish, the bichirs will ignore them as they aren't bite sized. If the fish you caught arent aggressive predators then they should ignore the bichirs. If youre going to try it then I recomend put lots of caves and hiding safe areas for the bichirs to go if they get too stressed or bullied. keep a very close eye on your fish for the first few days if you do put them in together. I would wait until a more experienced member replies to you though.

and as for natives, the same kinds of native fish live in south california, which overlaps with the same kind of temperatures that tropical species would need, so I would think things like bass would be adjustable to temperatures

do these fish take large dump??? My mom is making me release them because the sunfish just pooped out 3 massive green pellets!! LOL

The bass is obviously a problem and will eat the bichirs as soon as its able. The sunfish are typically agressive and will bother/kill your polys, but will definitely out compete it for food as they are much more active feeders. Cant say much about the perch since Ive neveer had one, but its in the same family so will most likely have similar issues.

only one way to find out right?:)

LOL. I'm going to release the sunfish back. Are the bass super aggresive or something?? i know they can eat salamanders and ducklings but will they also harass and eat bichirs??

Catching them in your area, they may or may not be able to handle the water temps. They also very likely contain many internal parasites which you've now introduced to your other fish. They are also definitely illegal to keep in Ontario and you just let any authorities who may wander through here know you have them.

Large mouth bass aren't aggressive, i've kept them in tank with other fish and they really keep to themselves to be honest. And if it gets to out of hand throw him back into the wild.

They're mad fun though, and grow at a nice rate.
