.
Or what about a fire mouth? I read somewhere you could.

Depends on what other fish are in the community. If you mean neon tetras etc when your say 'community', then no, should not add a convict

What If I changed my red phantoms to something bigger like congos?

They are very active and like their area. Most of the time I would say yes. But always an exception to the rule

So would you say stick to the red phantom tetras or go with something bigger like congos?

Convicts hold there own with bigger cichlids.
But if they go into breeding mode,
they could kill fish up to there same size.
And also in a large tank, If they breed.
Good luck getting all the babies out,
without draining the tank.
They are why I have gone to crayfish feeders.

Well I was only going to go with 1 female. What about firemouths? Do they go well in a community tank? Could I also keep my red phantoms? I would like something big that stands out.

The firemouths will definitely be more peaceful, but one convict usually isnt too bad either
