As the title says, I am starting the process of building a custom 225 gallon tank. I don't have any pictures yet because it's still in the planning and research stage.

The tank will be:
-225 Gallons
-60"x36"x24"(5'x3'x2')
-3/4" Plywood
-3/4" Cell-Cast Acrylic Window (haven't decided if I am for sure going with acrylic or glass yet. I prefer acrylic.)
-Some form of Liquid Rubber (possibly Pond-Coat? still researching different products)

The tank will be setup for Polypterus(Bichirs). I already have two Polys for the tank and plan to add more. The stock list will be somewhere along the lines of:
-Endlicheri Bichir(polypterus endlicheri endlicheri)[OWNED]
-Nigerian Senegalus(polypterus senegalus senegalus)[OWNED]
-Ornate Bichir(polypterus ornatipinnis)
-Albino Nigerian Senegalus(polypterus senegalus senegalus var. albino)
-Delhezi Bichir(polypterus delhezi)
-Rope Fish(erpetoichthys calabaricus)
-Pimelodella Four Line Catfish[OWNED]
-Spotted Shovelnose Catfish Hybrid(shovelnose x s.a. redtail)
-Common Plecostomus
-Marbled Sailfin Plecostomus[OWNED]
-Royal Plecostomus[OWNED]

This stock list isn't locked in yet so it may change overtime. These are just some possibilities. My overall goal is to eventually have a tank with one of each species of Polypterus excluding the long fins, short bodied, and albinos (those can come at a later time). Knowing this, I will obviously need a even larger tank overtime, but a 225g is a good size I think for the expected stock atleast for a while.

I actually started constructing the stand first just to give me an idea of the size(L"xW") so I can pick the best spot to place the tank. I'm not sure if I trust 225 gallons of water in my bedroom due to the fact I am on the second floor. I have no idea what the max volume/weight is that a second floor can hold so if anyone has an idea on a max volume/weight please let me know! If I am able to put this in my bedroom I would be extremely happy. If not, it's going in the basement or garage depending on where I can make some room. Other than that, I can't really say much until I finish the stand and start the tank build. Any questions or advice is greatly appreciated and encouraged! I am no pro at this so I will take all the help I can get! Stay tuned for updates!

QUESTION? I have 3 choices of plywood for the tank and I wasn't sure which would be the strongest, best option for the build.
I can choose from:
-Oak Hardwood Plywood
-Birch Hardwood Plywood
-Sanded Hardwood Plywood

The wood will be 3/4" plywood and they're all 3 about the same price give or take a couple bucks, so I just wanted to get some opinions on what the best wood choice would be? I was thinking the Oak would be best, but I'm no wood expert.

I have No advice to offer, But sounds like a cool build. I'm following!

well thank you. I'm sure either of these will work, but I wanna see if one is better than the other before I buy. I would like to post some sort of blueprints to give you guys an idea of what I'm doing, but unfortunately, you'll have to wait for actual build pics lol

Pleco's and Poly's are not a good mix. The TSNXRTC will outgrow that tank in no time.. I suggest a smaller growing catfish like a vulture Catfish or Tigrinus Catfish. For liquid Rubber i recommend Zavlar.

i dont believe Zavlar is available in the US but I may be wrong. I have already ordered from Rubberizeit though so Im just gonna stick with their UG Liquid Rubber. And I have had plecos with my Poly's the entire time. Haven't had a problem yet, but I will keep that in mind. And it's not a TSNxRTC. It's just a common shovelnose cross with redtail. Only averages about 21" compared to the larger 36"-48" average with the TSNxRTC. My local shops label it as Spotted Shovelnose Hybrid.

for the ply wood i would go with the one with the most layers it will be stronger.

well they're all 3/4" ply, so I guess I'll have to count layers next time I'm at the store lol I didn't really pay too much attention to the layers when I went last.
