It does not need C02 but it grows thicker and faster with CO2.

i would ditch the sword, i had one for about a year, and it literally took up half of my old 75g, couldnt fit any other plants on that side, and none of my lfs wanted to take it when i took the tank down

Omg I would LOVE to take that sword plant off your hands:). Your lfs would be crazy not to. Mine pays customers for plants. This 1 guy had over 20 anubias that had taken over his tank. Walked away with 100$ cash.

This is because short plants wont stay short without adequate lighting. All plants react to light deficiency by growing toward the light. So if you dont let it grow toward the light such as trimming it to kep it low its gonna wither and die.

ur going to need high lights and co2 if u want it to spread fast otherwise its going to take awhile. dwarf sags are fairly easy. with nutrient substrates like eco-complete flourite amazonia etc...and decent lighting it grows pretty fast. but with highter light and co2 it grows fast and low. depending on foreground plants. u want high lights so the plants stay short. otherwise with low light the plant grows taller to reach the light. but with high light comes algae and you'll want fertilizer and or co2 to balance things out.

if u want to learn everything about planted tanks. go over to plantedtank.net forum. its a popular sites for plants and scaping. everything u need to know there about aquarium plants.
