Clown loach seem to be the off the menu species for most fish including gulpers.

They're quite alert and fast, they also have spikes that come out of the side of their mouths. My pbass and gulper will eat 6 inch cichlids but leave my 5 inch clown alone.

They wont eat smaller gulpers although thats only what I have read not experienced.
