Olympics getting more and more... Special?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
as a disabled former athalete ...this is a wonderful acheivement

I applaud their tenacity, but don't understand why they aren't competing in the paralympics. Those athletes are still in phenominal shape, and I'm speaking from personal experience since I had a coach with one arm who competed in javelin and know another guy with no arms who is competing in archery this year.

hold up there tex ....if a guy can whip your butt ,why you want to stop him from competing and beating the best .thats the point of doing ANYTHING

It's called HEART and many people with struggles have it.

I totally respect their heart, tenacity, and skill. I do think I "over-reached" with this legally-blind archer, he doesn't have any equipment that gives him a real/perceived advantage (like the Blade-Runner) and he qualified on his own (unlike the Blade-Runner). More power to him.

But I do see a growing amount of media-hype over the number of "disadvantaged" athletes competing in the Olympics this year, just this morning saw a clip on a Ping-Pong player with one arm... Its cool, but at the same time, the focused-hype takes away from the games in general, to me...

And I do still stand on principle that the Blade-Runner should not have received a spot.

if their good enough to compete against the best they belong...if not ,well ,no, as far as blade runner having an advantage,I'll bet he'd trade legs with anybody thats got 2 healthy ones:)

We agree on both accounts then... but wishing he had "normal" legs doesn't mean he doesn't have "mechanical advantage" due to his prosthetics ;)

Legally blind does not mean you are actually blind, just have worse then 20/200 vision, basically can't pass the DMV test... The inner section of the target is gold, he can easily see this, just probably not the lines and numbers. When I was watching him shoot, the commentators said its actually an advantage cause you don't over think or analyze anything, just shoot for the center. Honestly, it's just media grabbing hold of anything slightly interesting and hyping it up.

20/200 is legally blind? I'm 20/400 or so with a severe astigmatism. Wear glasses or contacts! lol

i didn't read your article but did watch the shooting event the other day. he's got 10 percent and 25 percent vision in his eyes. i almost think that helps. less distractions. Either way, congrats to him. i want to see him shoot a moving target though
