I wouldn't be surprised. I'm sure it takes a lot of money just to travel and compete, not to mention all the custom made equipment he has to use.
I applaud their tenacity, but don't understand why they aren't competing in the paralympics. Those athletes are still in phenominal shape, and I'm speaking from personal experience since I had a coach with one arm who competed in javelin and know another guy with no arms who is competing in archery this year.
hold up there tex ....if a guy can whip your butt ,why you want to stop him from competing and beating the best .thats the point of doing ANYTHING
if their good enough to compete against the best they belong...if not ,well ,no, as far as blade runner having an advantage,I'll bet he'd trade legs with anybody thats got 2 healthy onesI totally respect their heart, tenacity, and skill. I do think I "over-reached" with this legally-blind archer, he doesn't have any equipment that gives him a real/perceived advantage (like the Blade-Runner) and he qualified on his own (unlike the Blade-Runner). More power to him.
But I do see a growing amount of media-hype over the number of "disadvantaged" athletes competing in the Olympics this year, just this morning saw a clip on a Ping-Pong player with one arm... Its cool, but at the same time, the focused-hype takes away from the games in general, to me...
And I do still stand on principle that the Blade-Runner should not have received a spot.
