Interesting pic. I've never seen a Cyano with the worming around the mouth before... at first glance it definitely looks more Cyano due to the smaller pearls and the color but that worming by the mouth is giving me second thoughts. Keep us updated. I'd like to see what this fish looks like in a few months.

I surely will, I am still reading up on these, the more I read the more confused I get. Does anyone else thing that the body color(not the pearls) is darker than a regular cyanoguttatum?

The first fish is not a Carpintis. It's a regular Cyanoguttatum. A classic Texas Cichlid. Still a good looking jv with lots of potential.

Aye, my gut feeling tells me that it's a cyano but the worming keeps on screaming out 'carpintis' lol. The problem is that the worming seems so... minimal, but it is THERE which throws me off. >< Maybe it's just too young atm, and will be clearly a carpintis later. Or maybe it's just a weird cyano. Grrrrrrrrr.

Carps can also change their pearling color if they want to. Anyways yeah, still looks carp x cyano.

Do you mean caprintis and not carp?

The "Texas" is caprintis for sure. This the problem w/ common names. These are two different sp. called the same common name.

Here is a pic of cyano for comparison:
