Water change, water conservation. Question for monster tank owners.

I wish I could set mine up to go out side but water does not flow uphill and I want it to be gravity fed so never any issues with a pump going out or what. also with the winter here the pipes would freeze and that would make it no good.

Yeah I don't have that issue here in Phoenix.
Can you set it up like a basement sump? I grew up in Chicago. I remember the basement sumps would run on and off all winter. You could set up a trickle to overflow into a garbage can or something big. Set a float to turn on and off a pump. The pump will force water out to your yard and when the pump turns off the water in the pipe will drain back to the sump and not freeze.
Just a thought.

I don't know how to add comments to each pic?
Pictures are the trickle manifold going to 4 tanks
A trickle line flowing fresh water into the tank
One of my 55 gallon sumps with a 1" over flow elbow pointed up. I adjust the sumps water level by adding lengths of 1" pvc pipe.
Outside behind the bushes, garden hose cut up with T fittings to run water to bushes and trees.

I think if the water is recycled back into the yard or on the garden, it takes the sting out it somewhat. I absolutely hate pythons as they waste so much water.

I wonder if the water removed from a tank during a water change could be filtered through a membrane type filter and reused? I wonder. They make drinking water from sea water...

How do you deal with chlorine?

LOL, if only we could figure out a way to reuse the same water in the aquarium.

Since a lot of you guys are recycling the water, has anyone called DWP to have them inspect the recycled water to try and get some of the sewer charge dropped??

If im not mistaken, every drop of water is charged and also charged to sewer usage. Every penny helps ;)

I don't. I think the small amount of water added to the tank over a long period of time doesn't hurt the fish. If i was doing a 50% water change i would be concerned. Just 1 gallon per hour isn't a problem.

I am all ears as well! I am on an auto drip system at 450 gallons a week for a 822 gallon tank. I also have the drain water going to my queen palm tree, which might I add since using the aquarium water has turned nice full and green. I am thinking of drilling and adding a well system for my tank and lawn system. Won't really do much for conservation waisting, but will help my pockets. lol

I don't know how deep the water table is where you are, but we had to drill over 500' for our well. It cost just under $40k altogether...

That said, I do love all the clean, chlorine-free water!
