We finally got 4 Crenicichla compressiceps today for my girlfriend
And I to share. She has been searching for them practically since we started dating. We also got 2 Teleocichla monogramma, aka dwarf goby pikes. Package was delayed from Tuesday until this morning, which means we barely had time to acclimate them before work, but I ws told we had 2 pair of the compressiceps! Pics to follow....

As common as they used to be (supposedly) I've never seen C. compressiceps. I've search lists for years. The closest I came was Oliver Lucanus, but the price to get them through Dan Ye was really high considering the size of the fish. I can't wait to see them.

Yeah they were high, but you know the deal. They are about 1.5 to 2 inch and already have some color to them. We are keeping them w/ our discus, baby uarus, etc. They are the same size as the 2 retroculus in that tank so I think they will be ok. Ryan, m Heroina are starti ng to really color up and get their markings, stoked.

Lots and lots of hiding places!!! They are insanely aggressive to each other if not already bonded. One aquarist in Europe had a pair that killed off all the others in a 9ft+ tank. Keep a real close eye on them. I had a nonbonded pair in a 40 breeder, and the male never let the female out of cover (and there was a ton of it) and would chase her none stop until I seperated them.

Also, awesome score on both species.

Man Darth, my girl read online that they were a great schooling pike and Dan Ye's husband said they belived I had 2 pairs. We will definitely keep an eye on them, especially after what went down w/ the wallacei. Thankfully we have several tanks if something does happen. We separated the sp Orinoco Reganis at first but they are doing great together now.

From what I've read, compressiceps are one of the most aggressive of the dwarf pikes. They are hard on each other and can also hassle larger tankmates when paired. The uaru may be okay but they will probably make your discus skittish (if they get nippy) and hound (or kill) anything small. Just a guess. Then again, it depends on the personality of your particular fish.

They are, without a doubt, by far the most aggressive dwarf pike I've kept out of the 5-6 species I've had. I mean, it is not even close. Oddly, they did fine with the L. dorsigera I had in with them yet killed off a couple of Jack Dempsies that always picked fights with the compressiceps.

Before they disappeared, I was thinking of keeping them in almost mbuna type set up ... ie overstocked and with massive amounts of pvp piping to hide. Once paired, they should get along just fine. One of the first successful breeding was in a 20 gallon long, so once bonded you should be fine.

I got a trio also and they are great little pikes. Way more personable and outgoing than my sp. orinoco. I asked for 1 m 2 f and think I got the reverse. Hard to tell at such little size. I have always heard if the anal fin has striping it is male and 2 of my have it. Any other tips for sexing? I do have 2 that are already spending time together and hopefully bonding. It is what I have been considering the sub male and the female with the largest most aggro fish spending time alone. Look forward to pics of yours.
