I know old and very wide open question. I've seen so many post that say Bio Media is Biomedia. I know allot of folks run Eheim media in Fluval and in all different combinations. My question is do any of you believe that some media works better in certain canisters due to the canisters design? Also I've been eyeballing Seachem Matrix or pond Matrix seems to be cheaper then Biomax or Eheim does anyone use it?

the more porus the better. now the actual size of the media can slow the actual flow rate and affect the direction of the water flow. so say you have a 2 gal bucket of matrix. id rather have it all in a canister with 4 trays to space it up, than all in 1 or 2 trays packed in tight. i really dont think the difference is great enough to even notice though. i hope that made sense it is 5 am lol

Thanks for the info, I have been thinking of trying the Matrix and just have wondered if it is as good as the Eheim or Fluval Media. I know the flow on the FX5 is backwards from most filters and I read somewhere you have to be careful that nothing gets into the motor. I have the mechnical media loaded in the top trays with the bio in the bottom two but I have been questioning if thats correct? The suggested from Hagen shows lots of carbon using both the blue and the white pads (which I question if I need both) so there recommended loading order is useless to me. And I take it with top motor filters its just the opposite? As far as the bacteria goes I'm sure it dosn't care if its Eheim or Fluval or whatever:). I was just looking to try and keep it consistant as possible what I need for media.
