Ornate bichir wont sit flat on the bottom

I recently bought this bichir and it will not sit flat on the bottom. He swims to the bottom and floats back up. I bought him from another mfker that claims he never did this before but he was doing the same thing in the tub when he got to me. He has eye clout and seems to be filling up with air because I went to net him so I could pull him closer to the front glass to inspect him, he busted a bunch of air bubbles out and was able to sit on the bottom for a short period of time.

I am new to polys and I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what this is. Thanks in advance for any help.

I agree. The seller claims it happened in the car ride. No way this happens in a car ride. This picture is also after he had been in the tank for well over 12 hours.

Yes I did. I measured the ammonia in the water in the tub and they were through the roof. The other fish that were in the tub had eye clout as well as one had fin rot.

Not sure how relevant it is to your case necessarily but they came to the conclusion in that thread that it simply has gas and needs a more varied diet

I don't own bichirs myself but thought I'd search some to see if I can help you

A buddy was nice enough to go pick him up for me because I had to work. So I did not see him until he was already at my house. My buddy is not very familiar with polys.
