New to building ponds so take it easy guy's,

Ive kept fish in above ground wooden tanks for years, the tanks were huge hardwood planters that I "found" and utilised

As said had them years and they look a bit *hit, ive got an idea to build a wooden tank using stacked bolted timbers and then fitting an old glass table top (1500x900). The glass will be lifted on 3" feet above the hight of the tank for feeding ventilation ect.

The idea being sit at the table and see my fish through it :naughty:

I'll use the uv light and pressure filter from the existing tank so im happy just looking for thought from the experts.

Oh and it will have a under water light lol

Thanks in advance.....

Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. I'd leave the table top on a hinge so you can move it out of the way if needed though (adding fish, removing fish, etc) and maybe consider some way automate water changes to limit the need for lifting the table top

Pretty cool idea imo :). Granted I'm no pro by any means but I'm curious to see what others think!

Hinges, now we are talking, I need a cheap way of building the tank, ive looked a few that are flat sided 4" poles that are used in landscaping stacked and interlocked together.

you should consider the water condensation on the glass surface, its mainly due to temperature difference.
just leave a ventilation of 3" all round . (as much as is possible)
worst case use a series of PC fans to move the air out quickly before it condenses on the top glass.

lol this will be going outside in the middle of a decking area, sorry if that wasn't explained, plus im in the northeast of England so the temp. is low.

Go rt ahead then ! I don't think you would face anything that's not fixable.

Right started it 9"x3" huge screws holding it together, the glass is just laid on top of the timber for now, it needs to be lifted on legs for feeding and air flow, the liner next and pipes, cables and underwater lights.
Im enjoying making it, any thoughts on how it's coming on.....
