The tanks are only built with 3/8" plexi because they are divided, if they were open they would need most likely 3/4" plexi. However you could cut a hole in the middle of the dividers without compromising the structual integrity of the tank. That being said you can't have any sharp corners or the divider can crack and the tank walls could blowout under the pressure.
