I wouldn't recommend syns if it was me because the two I've had over the years become terrors. I like the tetra ideal and have you thought about t. Pasiones, cutteri, rainbow cichlid, or even a flagtail.

I think chocolate cichlids are a beautiful species that may be nice addition to your tank. Nice looking tank!
Those are all cool fish. My other problem is that I really don't want to do an order and we don't have many fish stores around that carry cool fish.
I may have to go with silver dollars and tetras, shoaling fish on top would actually be pretty neat.
There is a red head in my local classified so im considering it. What everyone experience with these cichlids? My geophagus range from 3-11 inches so I can't have anything aggressive....
Also what about firemouth?

The FM I had must have had little guy syndrome he would start fights with my Cuban Cichlid like really...lol?
+1 on the chocolate cichlid. As for schooling fish, maybe a big group of rainbows, even though they are not exactly CA/SA
