Anyone Ever Remove the Shaft from an Eheim Impeller?

This thing is seized in there good and appears to be made of some sort of ceramic or something. This is really disturbing that I already paid $70ish for a new impeller and now it appears as though I need to spend another $20ish to get a new shaft for said impeller. That's over $100 for an impeller/shaft setup for a canister filter. Eesh. I could have paid the same for an entire brand new Aquatop filter. It seems that if you pay $70 for an impeller that it should just come with a new shaft since most other manufacturers charge around $20 for a new impeller. Eheim may make good products but c'mon already.

No, I bought a used Eheim 2180 that needs a new impeller. I ordered one for a butt-ton of money expecting to swap it out when it arrived. When it arrived I was disappointed to find that the impeller shaft wasn't easily removed and some brief searching revealed that they regularly break and I see nobody talking of reusing them only they they broke them trying to simply use them. Doesn't seem like a desirable trait from a shaft that costs $20 by itself.

You can try soaking the frozen impeller/shaft in warm vinegar for a couple hours to see if it will loosen up. Do not try to force the shaft out of the impeller or it will break. Ceramic is tough but brittle so don't try banging it to get it out.

The only way I have been able to get them out is pull as hard as possible and as straight as possible. To get the ends off, I drill small holes in the ends of the shaft support bushings to break the suction. The hole also allows you to tap them out with a nail.

Too late. Had to order a brand new one. The kicker is I've paid about $18 in shipping on the impeller and shaft from Al's and had I known & ordered them at the same time I would have got free shipping. grrrrr....
