I'm still new to this hobby....and very rook when it comes to breeding cichla.

I have a male GT whose growth was stunted and I recently got a baby firemouth. With in a week of owning the firemouth I knew it was a female because it's pipe was out and I noticed it laid green little eggs which my JD was quick to eat.

Intitially the GT and FM hated eachother. I got rid of the JD......NOW the FM and GT are always together. Like paired off or something. Could someone please shed some light/ knowldge onthis.

I've never tried breeding before but that's why I've gotten rid of the majority of my fish in hopes to research and begin breeding. That would be soooo sick if those two could pair off.

Drop me a line and please let me know

Wont happen I dont think gt's can hybridize with anything other than blue acara but i could be wrong wait for others but hate to poo poo on your parade

As Chris P's thread states SA's (with an exclusion) cannot hybridise with CA's. So a green terror FM isn't going to happen.

Not just BA's, anything in the Andinoacara (formerly Aequidens) genus. But yes, essential Acaras.

Haha damn that is unfortunate. Would be cool....Hey on the brightside at least they aren't trying to kill each other anymore...initally foes BUT now bro's!
- still a win for me:)

Thanks for sharing your knowledge guys

Also, for the rookie cichla refers to peacock bass, FM and GT's are cichlids.

hybrids can be neat and this would have been one if it were possible

ahhh I see..cheers, mate. PS your FH avatar is awesome! how big is that guy?

SECONDLY I WANT AN ACARA NOWWW....got to get into this whole breeding deal and cross breeding would be a most excellent place to start. With that said do you all suggest I start with same species then dive into hybrids or does the level of difficulty not really differ??
