I WISH I COULD BRAZILIAN MM

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This ray has almost certainly come out of Colombia..not Brazil!
The shop owner will have most likely bought from an wholesaler hence the mistake on the country of origin. If you study offer lists like I do from Colombia they have rays called Marble Motoro and" royal" Marble Motoro, the later being silly expensive, they are generally between £250-£300 pounds to the trade so a mark up of what you have seen is very reasonable.
The trouble is the fish in question is more than likely a "ROYAL" but from the pic it is a very poor specimen (low grade), its fully developed sexually and I don't see the pattern improving, this is the risk you take when ordering wild Marbles, better buying captive bred from a reliable breeder in the States, very good quality parents rarely produce rubbish in my experience.
It will more than likely be the cheaper option also, far less chance of importing parasites......its a win win win situation.

Good luck with your choice when ever that may be.

Thanks for clearing that up. The same fish store labeled my orbigny as a "white's stingray" so m not suprised they messed up. Ill pass on the motoro after you filled me in on the info. However this makes me wonder if my orbigny is also of low quality. Tho I love it and will keep it either way, let me know what u think. ThanksView attachment 823354View attachment 823356tho for the price I paid, it could be a minnow with a costume on and id be ok, im just curious

Hi TakeNotes.
Orbignyi are very variable rays but in 90% of cases the eyebrow markings around both the eyes and spiracle gives the game away, this is indeed an Orbignyi and rather a nice patterned one also.
Nice ray!

If you are in NYC you should go to aquarium paradise in bellville nj 30 min away check out stock on website aquascape online carries wild Brazilian motoro for 300 and from the one I got there patterns are much nicer. Also they are a vendor on this site

FYI Aquarium Paradise and AquascapeOnline are right down the block from each other. . . you can hit them both in the same trip. Great stores!

Wow! Didn't know that. I thought the store a few blocks closer to Clifton was aquarium paradise. Learn new things every day.
