Thanks man. I really hope so.

Thanks. I found some of your old threads on them. Have any recent pics of yours?

Thanks :) I only have one large male that is a mean SOB. He will kill smaller fish dithers and other cichlids. He almost killed my male salvini. I am waiting until the sal is close in size before I return the deppi to my 150g.

general question, what do they max out size? your group looks nice, its good having (cichlidfish)'s adult to show how the end up

wow your male is awesome. Have you considered trying to get a female for him? I may have one for you before too long. Do you think there is any chance for a pair to co-exist in a 55 when full grown?

Yours will look just as good. They already have a lot of color.
I never tried to breed mine, because I hear males are really rough on the females and often kill them. A 55g would be fine, but keep a divider handy. I have also had a hard time keeping dithers/target fish w/ my deppi. I have watched him sneak up on a swordtail kill it w/ one bite to the head then eat the whole fish taking bites from it. I never seen any cichlid eat other fish this way. Others swollow their prey whole.

I have a group of black skirt tetras in there with them to hopefully reduce some aggression. I have noticed since I added the deppi that they are looking more and more ragged but no losses yet. They are probably still a little small to be taking out other fish.

Yup that is good you have dithers. They should be fine for now. You should easily get a pair.

Well as predicted two of these guys have paired up. Their first attempt at spawning was not successful. They guarded the eggs for a little while and then split up, about a day later the female ate the eggs. Oh well, they will have more chances. Here is a pic of the female in breeding dress:
