To see if anyone had any more information other than what he knew...
doomie ..... the vendor that you purchased your fish from doesn't even list those festae as being from Ecuador. On his website they are simply listed as:
RED TERROR SM ............. 4 for $39.00
On aquabid they are listed as:
RED TERROR FESTAE ( WILD CAUGHT )
Again, no mention of being festae from Ecuador.
I guess that old saying "there's a sucker born every day" still holds true.
In the past year it went from no one having any wild caught festae from Ecuador for sale, to every man & his dog having a seemingly never ending supply of them for sale, all of them being 1-2" fry, and for approx. $10 a piece. Right.
When things sound too good to be true, that's usually because they are.
The only downside to all of these recent "wild caught" festae is that it has devalued true wild caught festae, and possibly muddied up the overall genetics of this species as most people won't know what they actually have as with most of these fish there is no provenance back to wild, just some vendors stating that the guy they bought them from said they were wild. This seems to be a reoccurring theme with most cichlids that gain sudden popularity. Suddenly everything becomes F0.
Wild caught fishes means nothing to me unless there is a "certificate of authenticity". Wait.... did I just say that out loud?
