Any success with feeding arowanas sinking pellets ?

Don't believe sinking pellets will have any affect on the Aro getting DE. What I did observe from my black aro back when I first got it was that it started to develop scar tissue on it's eyes. This came from scraping it's eyes on the substrat while retrieving food of the bottom. Once I eliminated this from happening the eyes cleared up.

Arowana are not made to take food of the bottom, I would not feed sinking foods unless the aro takes it before it hits bottom.

but didnt gandalf say that river shrimps off the bottom were its main food in the wild? how could
that be it they are not made to eat off the bottom?

i have just been giving that fantana guy some crap. i dont believe de comes from pellets or looking down. just qouting some of the random ideas that have been thrown out. head trama is the one that makes sence.

Don't know about shrimp in the amazon, can only develop my opinion on what happen with my arowana. If they are eating shrimps, they are not picking an inanimate object off the river bottom as the shrimp will move to keep from being eaten. So the arowana would have to catch the shrimp while it was moving I would imagine.

i agree with you, i just remembered that from before when i read up on gandalf. that was one of the things i used in the creation of him repling the reply in my sig. god that was funny, and all true i did all the things acused in that post.

if they did feed on some shrimps i would asume they would hit them on the jump like bass do with crayfish.

My black will eat floating, sinking, off the bottom and if I don't feed him quick enough he will try to get it out of the air in my hand. My old Jar would eat any thing also, but I always give variety of foods and I think that helps.

is there any way to get a pellet to float longer i got my arowana Medigold to help treat internal bacteria but it sinks too fast for it to eat. is there any suggestions

Mine eat the jumbo hikari sicks...also eat the sinking meat and veggie tabs my pacus and pang sharks go for. I only feed once every 3-4 days so no issues with them being picky. It takes a few weeks sometimes for Aros to eat...just be persistent.

my silver aro wont touch anything unless it floats... also your arowana can develop drop eye from searching for food below the water surface and it looks pretty nasty!!

My silver abandoned all floating pellets once he discovered the hikari carnivore pellets I was feeding to the other fish. He wasn't very good at it and it looked silly but otherwise there were no issues with him eating off the bottom, and he did it voluntarily *shrug*.

I tried to drop some in one at a time so he could get them out of the water column, but he still went to the bottom and ate anyway.
