That's what I was thinking this fish looks 10 times nicer then some kelberi I've seen and with a cheaper price tag on top of it

Bahia's, yes. But, not the wild kels out there.

We know of a few vendors and hobbyist trying our damnest to bring some in....but there is so much we can do when the price of 100 wild kels are at $10,000 and only 50 make it in alive.....who is going to take a hit????....the vendor/hobbyist. It's a money issue that most, if not all are going to risk.

I'm just happy that I have wild kelberis......eh gangster!!!???!!

That's interesting. Are kelberis located in a country where its illegal to import them hence the price? I drool just looking at all the member's WC kelberis. I wished I had picked a few up when they were available a few years ago. I was too young and still am to afford all these rare cichla. lol. You guys need to start a WC kelberi breeding program! :D

Kelberi's are only located in brasil. Exporting bass from there (as far as I know) is still illegal. Hence the harder to come by now.

As for the breeding project, I got one male cearra to two wild rapps kelberis to work with. Still waiting for CJ's other WC kelberis.

But, its hard.....no one is giving up there wild kels to even attempt a breeding program......but I am.

I learned something new today. I wasn't aware that kels only occurred in Brazil. I guess it's the fact that wild kelberis are so hard to come by nowadays that everybody is holding onto theirs. It's pretty understandable. Who knows when the next import of WC kels is going to take place? I hope you guys are successful in breeding your kels and good luck with the project. We'd all love F1's! Are they in a tank by themselves?
