usually hardcore LFS, not chains

peaceful, eats everything, swims well at night but not too actively

for a 3' adult, at a minimum 12'x6' footprint

I have to agree with this growth rate. This matches my current O. niger's growth rates as well as ones I've had in the past.

Spot on I'd say.

This fish typically is not active. It is best as a pond fish IMO. I noticed at my higher end LFS, there 2' specimen was uber friendly in their 500 gallon indoor demo pond with koi and comets. It begged for food at the surface. However, my O was a lush. Looked for cover, at plenty at night and was totally nocturnal. Just don't expect this fish to be active unless it's given a huge amount of space and is almost bribed by food and so on. They are no aggressive in the slightest, they usually don't even eat a tiny Cory as a tank mate.
